It was a colourful session at the prestigious Landmark Event Centre in Oniru Victoria Island Lagos on Wednesday April 25, 2018.

There was a large turnout of participants and guests at this year's Nigeria Entertainment Conference which is the sixth in line since it started.

The theme for this year was: Understanding Emerging Markets, Trends, and Opportunities. And to do justice to the issue were veterans in the industry.

Some notable speakers includes: D'Banj, Dare, Simi, Cobhams Asuquo, Brymo, Shina Peters. Other personalities includes: Martin Mabutho of Multichoice, Richard Nnadi of Yaaga, Sam Onyemelukwe of Trace Tv, Daddy Freeze of Cool Fm, among many.

Stakeholders in the entertainment industry are canvassing the need to take the Nigerian Entertainment industry way up the ladder to measure with their foreign counterparts.

This they agreed can be actualized through the use of innovation and latest technology. To achieve this, players in the field must undertake to study and understand the market, and at the same time access opportunities.

Whereas the Nigerian industry is said to be doing well, stakeholders affirm that much more needed to be done.

Cobhams Asuquo in explaining some of the challenges that plague some contributors in the industry, sighting song writers who most times work behind camera, said many of such creative minds lives in penury.

Such issues as protecting the intellectual property rights of persons, top his discourse.

As he puts it:''when I come up with a music idea for instance, I first write it as a mail and send to myself. That way it would be on record that I have ownership of the material judging from its date at least.

''There are those who do not know their rights on this, and so are ripped off. This is often so because they can't afford pay for copyrights. And because they don't go in front of camera to sing the song, no one gives them credit for it. Many of such people can't even afford the basic things of life, whereas their songs will be making waves''

The event which was divided into speakers, panelists, and interactive sessions with the audience, witnessed a lot of responsiveness from those present.

Unique voice and pretty face Afro-pop and soul singer, Simi, talked about being original with your work. While not ignoring the business side of the profession, Simi opined that originality is the nucleus which would spur the artiste to greater height as well as distinguish him from the rest.

Stakeholders agreed that the market determines what the entertainers come up with, and not the other way.

The event offered participants the opportunity to learn and share their views on pressing issues affecting the growth of the industry.

More stories to come on NECLive 2018.
